A College Prep & Admissions Consultant can supplement your school counselor’s efforts by providing additional personalized guidance throughout the college admissions process. This can include working with you to develop a balanced college list, helping you create your activity list, preparing you for interviews and college visits, explaining the admissions process to you, and helping you with brainstorming and editing components of the application.
With Academic Adventures College Prep, we guide students and their families through every step of the admissions process so that they can identify the schools that will be the best academic and social fits for them, and then we work with each student to help them portray the best and most comprehensive representation of who they are to the admissions committees of their chosen schools. A College Prep & Admissions Consultant will not contact an admissions office on behalf of the student, nor can a College Prep & Admissions Consultant get a student admitted o guarantee scholarship money. Be wary of anyone who promises to get you into the top college of your choice — no one can guarantee admission or scholarship money and this violates the ethics of the profession.
Each school counselor may be responsible for 150-400 or more students each year. Scheduling and enrollment demands may limit the amount of time they have to discuss your college options. With college admission becoming a more involved and competitive process, you may want more individually focused time than your school counselor can provide. In addition, meetings can be scheduled to fit your and your parent's schedules. We routinely schedule meetings in the afternoon and evening afterschool, on school holidays and occasionally on the weekends. With Academic Adventures College Prep, our goal is to complement the supports & services you receive from your school so that you can find the schools that are a BEST fit for you and have the time that you need to use an expert at EVERY step in the process.

Enrichment, College Prep & Admissions guidance depends on factors and information unique to your student and their academic and personal history and goals. Therefore, we need to do a thorough review of your student’s history in order to provide advice and accurate and comprehensive answers to questions. Hence, we do not provide advice or guidance without completing the Academic Adventures Consultation Form and scheduling the Initial Consultation. You are welcome to ask your Enrichment Coach and/or College Prep Counselor specific questions during the Initial Consultation.
While Enrichment Programming begins as early as Pre-Kindergarten and continue through middle school, Academic Adventures College Prep students typically begin in 8th grade. Our comprehensive college prep counseling and financial aid consulting programs will allow your student to receive guidance well in advance of the start of the application process, which generally begins in the fall of junior year. We encourage students to start the college preparation process as early as possible, but we are happy to work with students at any point throughout the process. In addition to our comprehensive counseling programs for high school students, we also offer short-term programs for high school seniors.
Absolutely. Do keep in mind that time becomes very limited, and the learning curve is quite steep. Our goal is to reduce the stress families and students experience during the college search and application process so that the entire process easier on both students and parents. College admissions is changing and becoming more complex and stressful. Our role is to simplify the process and reduce the amount of stress during one of the most impactful transitions in a family's life.
Our college prep planning sessions are intended for individual students and their families. We believe that each student should have our undivided attention when we meet, however small group sessions (2-4 students) can also be created and tailored to the students' needs. We typically meet individually with students for the preliminary parts of the college planning process; throughout the year we also schedule a number of sessions and college planning workshops for small groups of students and parents who may also want information or skill building in addition to our individual working sessions.
We handle all aspects of the college search and application process. In addition to offer a series of career interest and personality assessments to ensure that students have a career focus as they enter the college search process, we read all essays and provide feedback for clients who are required to submit application essays. For students who will have admission and/or scholarship interviews, we also provide practice and coaching sessions. In addition, when students seek SAT or ACT tutoring, we provide resources to help them improve their test scores, starting with an SAT/ACT Diagnostic Assessment.
Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate this request. Of course, you can expect the same level of confidentiality as an Academic Adventures Enrichment or College Prep family. We understand that you may want to hear from former families first-hand and we have provided student and parent testimonials on our website for this purpose. We are proud to say that two-thirds of Academic Adventures students are referrals from current or former families.
